A smart class room was declared open at Jaffna College on the 7 th of January 2021. The classroom was built in honor of  Dr. S. T. S. Somasegaram, an alumnus of the College. Dr. Somasegaram was the President of the School Council in 1961 and an opening batsman in 1960. The classroom was donated by Mr. Raj Moahan Balendra, Attorney at Law, a nephew of Dr. Somasegaram.
The opening ceremony, which fell on the 80th birthday of Dr. Somasegaram, was presided over by the Rev. Dr. D. S. Solomon, Principal of Jaffna College. The Principal cut the ceremonial ribbon and the Rt. Rev. Dr. Daniel Thiagarajah, Bishop of the Jaffna Diocese of the Church of South India and Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Jaffna College, unveiled the plaque.
The administrators and teachers of the College were present at this event which was organized in keeping with the social distancing regulations in place in Sri Lanka.
