Prize-giving ceremony is always an important highlight of the academic year at Jaffna College.  Students, staff, parents, teachers, clergy, Board members and many guests gather in the quadrangle to help celebrate and honour student achievements and progress.

In 2016, the ceremony began at 4:30pm with the College band accompanying a colourful procession of guests and teachers under the watchful eye of uniformed scouts and guides who formed their guard of honour.

The 2016 Chief Guest was Dr. R.W. Alexandar Jesudasan (Ph.D&D.Sc), Principal and Secretary, Madras Christian College.

After the guests had assembled on the stage in front of the expectant audience, the opening hymn “ Be Thou my Vision” was sung, followed by a prayer by Rev. T. H. Vasanthakumar.

The official welcome was provided by Mas. BabbyAnosh, President of the Primary School Council. The Rev. Dr. D.S.Solomon gave his report on the highlights of the college year, mentioning particular contributions and thanking Board members, staff, students and all College supporters for their efforts.

The English Choir performed their action song, followed by the Prize-giving address by Dr. R.W. Alexander Jesudasan.  College Board member Ms. VijulaArulanantham assisted with prize distribution and then the audience was entertained by the Gold Medal Speech Tamil winner Mas. RajaratnamTharshan.  The Secondary Section prize-giving allocation followed, and then Miss AmendaNisreenBenjaimn gave her excellent Gold Medal Speech in English.

Next was the Primary Section prize distribution and the Special Awards and Sports Awards; always a crowd pleaser, as College sports and other champions and College teams came forward to receive their medals and honours.

President, School Council Mas.PavanathanSutharshan gave a vote of thanks followed by another vote of thanks from Mr. Katpagan Christian Kadirgamar (EAL/D Coordinator, Australia).

Rev. Dr.J.G. Thiagarajah gave the benediction.

The audience then enjoyed a beautiful traditional Tamil Dance Program featuring talented College students in vibrant traditional costume, with accompanying musicians and singers.

The 2016 Prize-giving Ceremony concluded, as is customary, with a rousing rendition of the College Song.
